What Somerset West Dads Really Want This Father’s Day

It’s Father’s Day this Sunday (if you didn’t know, now you do…) and this year, we’re ditching the default socks and undies. Instead, we’re finding out what Dad really wants. So what does Dad actually want? Keep reading – we’ve made it easy.

Last week, we sent out a poll in the Village Collective WhatsApp Group (join here – you're welcome!) calling on Somerset West dads to weigh in. And the results are in…

👨‍👧 36% – A Shared Experience

🍽️ 25% – Good Food

🚴‍♂️ 18% – Cycling or Outdoor Goodies

🎁 11% – Something ‘Out of the Box’

💳 4% – A Gift Card

🍷 4% – Wine

🧦 2% – Socks & Undies

A Shared Experience

The top vote? A shared experience. What that means will depend on what your dad enjoys—but the bottom line is, he wants to spend quality time with you. Here are a few ideas for what you can get up to with Dad in the Village this Father’s Day weekend:

  • Join the Specialized outride at 7 am on Saturday. Contact them at 021 850 0082 or pop into the store on Caledon to find out more details about the ride.

  • For the adventurous dad, Clay Pigeon Adventures at Lourensford has a variety of thrilling activities to choose from: fly fishing, pigeon shooting, MTB trails, axe throwing and more. Book now, and you can do this together on the weekend, or gift him a voucher and plan to do it together in the future.

  • Raise a glass together at the WYN weekly social on Friday from 3 pm. (Second best? Go solo and pick up a special bottle to gift him on Sunday.)

Good Food

The dads of Somerset West want good food – and luckily, there’s plenty on offer in the Village. Here are some winter specials you can try together:

  • Mugg & Bean at Chelsea Village are serving up delicious breakfast and lunch specials.

  • Pizza Perfect are doing 3 pizzas for R259. It couldn’t be more perfect.

  • Poke Co: You can build your own regular base for free if you sign up as a loyalty member (*valued at R75).

  • SPAR at Lionsquare: The milk tart is absolutely legendary.

Cycling and Outdoor Goodies

  • For the Cyclist: Specialized has everything from jerseys to gadgets to bikes. If you’re unsure of sizing, a voucher is always a safe bet.

  • For the Handy Dad: The big red building on Main Road (where PnP used to be) is opening this Thursday as… Builders Corner! From power tools to garden gloves, you’re bound to find something he’ll love.

Something ‘Out of the Box’:

Want to push Dad out of his comfort zone?

Bonus points if you join him!

Socks and Undies

We’ve already been through this – this isn’t what Dad really wants. But if he falls into that mysterious 2%, at least make sure they’re comfy and practical.

However you celebrate this Father’s Day – whether it’s a wild zipline ride, a shared pizza, or a slow morning coffee – we hope it’s filled with love, laughter, and connection.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at the Village Collective!
