Somerset West Christmas Lights Ceremony
Every December, there’s a special kind of magical glow that settles over Main Road. Long before the smell of mince pies lingers in the air, there’s that moment when our Christmas lights flick on – and suddenly the town feels like home in a whole new way. This year, we’re keeping that beautiful tradition alive.
You’re Invited, Somerset West!
On Wednesday, 10 December, from 18:30 to 19:30, we’ll gather in front of the Somerset West Town Hall for a small ceremony as Councillor Norman McFarlane does the honours of switching on the Christmas lights.
It’s nothing fancy, just the kind of neighbourhood moment that reminds us why we choose to live here. A shared moment of child-like wonder and Main Road slowly glowing to life. If you grew up in these parts, you probably remember that first sparkle of light that told you the holidays had officially begun or begging your parents to make a Main Road detour should you be driving anywhere after dark. It still gives that same feeling: joy, hope, a touch of whimsy.
So bring your family, bring your neighbours, bring that friend who always says, “I keep meaning to get more involved.” It’s free, it’s simple, and it’s one of the loveliest Somerset West traditions we still share.
See you on Main Road, Somerset West – let’s light up the season together.
